How can you run a steakhouse if you don't know how to cook a steak? My steak was burned outside and raw/cold inside. I am not a professional cook but I'm sure I can do better. If you ever experienced a real steakhouse you will be frustrated with this place.

Service was good. Server is pleasant and quick. Pretty rustic cabin feel, clean and great view of lake. The food was fast, hot and delicious. We ordered the biscuits and gravy and it was perfect...real sausage gravy and fresh fluffy biscuits. I got the ham and Swiss scrambler and it was yummy and cheesy. No skimping on portions or quality. Will be back while we are in the area for vacation.

I can't believe I ironed a dress shirt for this place. The chicken and wild rice soup was pretty good. The ribeye unremarkable. The whistling waitress gave us the bums rush with the check.

Super friendly bartender. We are here for unlimited pork rib night for $11:95. We did not reorder. See photo.

Delightful Sirloin steaks with yummy baked potatoes. The salad dressings were homemade thousand island, ranch, and blue cheese dressing....which was delicious!!! The waitess was so accommodating with fresh coffee and extra creams. And she was so sweet about our "service dog" who accompanied us to dinner on a busy Monday Night...right? Yup....packed on Monday Night!!!! We. Actually turned around on US2 to eat there as the parking lot was absolutely packed! Great rustic up north atmosphere...and decor...and very clean NOT grungy. I am picky and this was winner on US2!

Best dinner in Grand Rapids hands down! The quality of food is unrivaled. The service couldn't be better. I won't be eating anywhere else while I'm in town.

Stayed at the motel (same name - recommend that too, btw..), but ate breakfast here 3 x's - highly recommend. Great service, had a thermos mug of Jo within :30 of sitting. Breakfasts are fast and good value. 2nd floor view of woods and lake. Had the smoked sausage special - also berry pancakes - both awesome! Go here.

After a long day paddling your kayak, you can really work up an appetite. Why not satiate it at Forest Lake Restaurant & Lounge? You can order a big steak or huge ribs or walleye and get a gigantic side of the famous twice-baked potatoes or one of their soups. Beer cheese soup maybe?! The food is straightforward. It fills you up, that's for sure. And it's mostly pleasant. No, I suppose there's not a lot of finesse or subtlety, but didn't you say you were looking to satiate the hunger you worked up out on the lake? Mission accomplished, right?

Great breakfast! I found this place on a Google search while vacationing at nearby Ruttgers Sugar Lake lodge. I'm glad we found it! Great breakfast on a Saturday morning - it was packed, but we were seated quickly. Friendly waitress, wonderful pancakes a neat 'up north' atmosphere.

We stayed in the motel and felt compelled to eat at the nearby restaurant of the same name. We should have just went to the sports bar across the street. The steak my wife had was overcooked, thin, and smothered in sauce. Absolutely no flavor to the steak itself. The ribs I had were likewise drowned in sauce to overcompensate for the lack of skill in the kitchen, not to mention the lack of specialty in the menu. The sign bills the restaurant as a steakhouse, but the menu covers everything from steaks to Italian to Asian and Mexican. Never a good sign, just ask Cheesecake Factory. The beers were overpriced and misleadingly sized. The "jumbo" here is a far cry of what one expects from a jumbo sized beer. The fact that the restaurant was so crowded tells me either Grand Rapids is really in need of some better restaurants or folks in northern MN expect their food covered in sugary sauces and overcooked.

A filled parking lot showed strong appeal as a local favorite. Lunch with a house wine and an efficient waitress deserving at least 20% cost $13. I will stop again; even with lots of cars, there is ample space and good views from all the dining rooms.

Love this restaurant! Never had a bad meal here! Their twice baked stuffed potatoes are delicious, the ribs and steaks are very good too. They have a strawberry butter for the bread that I so love! Love the woodsy atmosphere and you can look out at the lake when you eat downstairs which is where we almost always go. Also they have delicious breakfast meals upstairs and lunch items. Great restaurant, one of our favorites for all meals!

Food and service are great, the downstairs Steak House is really good if you don't mind spending some $$$

had a craving for steak on my way back from Duluth. the reviews on yelp were encouraging and it was right off highway 2, so i figured i'd stop in. for starters, you've got to try their strawberry butter. it tastes almost like strawberry milkshake and you might be tempted to grab a straw! as for the salad....eh. the steak was average to above average. it was well cooked (medium rare) and was nice and thick and the jack daniel's sauce was good, but nothing to write home about. now, for my favorite part of the meal... the twice baked potatoes! it was simply delicious! it was filled with bacon bits, cheese and cooked to perfection. my girlfriend couldn't stop reaching over, eating half my potatoes. overall, i was very pleased and satisfied with the place. love the woodsy decor and the staff were nice and friendly. would i come again, certainly.

Only go to this place if you don't want to eat!! We sat for 20 minutes waiting to order & finally got up and left, it wasn't that busy!!

Blueberry pancakes - 5 stars. Stuffed French Toast - 5 stars. Chicken tenders - 3 stars (because they're just chicken tenders for crying out loud). Service - 5 stars. But the best? The German Reuben. A unique twist on the Reuben that I would give 10 stars if I could.

One of my favorite places to eat on Grand Rapids. I like the food upstairs, but I think downstairs is way to spendy.

We were visitors to the area and wanted to dine at a local restaurant. We had sandwiches and beer in the bar area. Seems to be a popular place. The food and service were good. We liked the rustic decor.

Conveniently located next to our hotel even though we did not refer to yelp it would have encouraged us to go. The salad had a hair in it and was obviously made earlier in the day and then refrigerated and wilted. The plank salmon was overcooked and dry. The server offered to take it off the bill. My husband had the twin filet walleye. Breaded and fried. He said it tasted like Mrs. Pauls fish sticks. We were told by the manager it was the best place in town. Next time we will eat at Subway.

I enjoy the Forest Lake Lounge a lot. Nice food and a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. A great local place and one of my favorite places for a burger and beer. I have never been disappointed there. Worth the stop.

We stopped overnight in Grand Rapids and were looking for a good place for breakfast. We came across this place and what a fantastic choice. The atmosphere is great. It looks like a lodge with big windows overlooking the lake. The service was fantastic. The waitresses were all walking around at a quick pace and taking care of of everything very quickly. It is not too often you see such hustle great customer service. This food was great. I had a ham and cheese omelet with hash browns. The omelet was good and the hash towns had a nice crisp on them. The other people at our table had a regular egg platters and a smoked sausage scramble. The smoked sausage scramble was really good. All and all, this is a great place for breakfast. The good is great, the service is amazing and the prices are very reasonable. I would recommend this to anyone looking for breakfast.

This is the best place that I have eaten in Grand Rapids! The food is awesome, I really like the salmon. The meals are pretty large and usually include sides and bread. They also have good specials. The bar is also super fun to chill at they have all sorts told taxidermy and just a generally good atmosphere.

The prime rib is to die for, and the beer battered shrimp is awesome. If they have the special for steak and all you can eat beer battered shrimp go for it. The service is awesome and if you have not tried the prime rib, get it. It is the best roast than I have ever had ever!

Lovely setting. Service was excellent but our food was slow coming out. The quality more than made up for the wait!!

This is a GR mainstay, around for as long as I can remember... and virtually nothing has been updated in all that time, it looks a bit run-down at this point which is sad because their food really is consistent and fabulous. I recall going to the downstairs steak house before school dances because that was one of the most "formal" places in town. Now we generally sit in the bar with the free popcorn. My favorite thing to order here is the German Rueben.... YUM! This thing is fantastic. Add a side of waffle fries and you are one stuffed customer for a reasonable price. That being said you can't really go wrong with anything here. Their salads are good (they used to have a seafood salad that was delicious, but that was many years ago), their pastas are good, their meats are generally good. I would go five stars if this place was updated. The bathrooms are flashback to the 80's, the carpet pretty much has wear holes in it, the table coverings are also wearing thin. A nice place, a nice location with consistent food and friendly staff. It needs a facelift, but that doesn't detract from the food, although it may put some people off before they even sit down.

When I'm in Grand Rapids looking for a nice sit-down dinner, I go to Forest Lake Restaurant & Lounge. I usually get the steak and walleye combo dinner with a side salad and a side of potato if I'm there for a meal. If I'm just looking to have a few drinks, I will go to the bar and have mozzarella sticks with my drinks. The mozzarella sticks are awesome as are the drink prices!
